Don't only come to Durango to ride the narrow gauge train.... Get the whole experience & stay in our lovingly-renovated narrow gauge depot half! Just a 20-minute drive to the Durango's main train station it was built in 1883 & holds a unique place in history including having been part of the 1956 Academy Award Best Picture Winner, "Around the World in 80 Days" with David Niven and Shirley MacLaine based on the novel by Jules Verne. :)
Everyone can share time together on the 1,000sf+ decks with near 360 degree views or enjoy time together in the great room that flows into the kitchen. The depot is roomy with plenty of space. :) The great room contains a billiards table (and harkens back to how the movie, "Around the World in 80 Days" begins)! Its a fun stay for families and train buffs as well as being a great launching point to explore the area like the nearby Mesa Verde National Park. The depot property itself is over 5 acres. The train depot is just 15 minutes from city limits and Walmart, etc. on all-paved roads.
The depot itself was recently completely renovated in a quality style with a nod to the past... it lends itself well also to a romantic, spa weekend away while enjoying amazing Colorado mountain views (see romantic add-on packages below). For example, the master bathroom is luxuriously appointed with a spa-like tub (a clawfoot tub is in the other bathroom!) and a separate shower space with both a body spray tower and an overhead rainfall shower. The unit is roomy with plenty of space. :) Then... head out and enjoy the Colorado lifestyle and all that Durango has to offer in hiking, hot springs, etc.
Please note that there is a King-sized bed in the Master Bedroom, four sleeping sofas (one queen and three twins) in the Living Room. An additional twin sized foam mattress is also available. Should you need or want additional room for up to 4 more we also have a "glamping" tiny home ("the Galloping Goose"... a 1966 Wanderlodge like John Wayne, Jimmy Carter and Johnny Cash traveled in style in) on site to rent -- it has 3 beds one of which is a California King. Please feel free to inquire.
In winter please remember that this is Colorado and a vehicle with good tires and with AWD or 4WD can be advisable. Due to ongoing dry conditions and at times total fire bans we are neither advertising nor allowing any type of fireplace, grill, fire pit/campfire or fireworks usage.
By booking you are agreeing to and thereby signing the Vacation Rental Agreement found under this listing's House Rules and is also the House Manual. Guests will be required to send Host a copy of a Government-issued identification within 24 hours of accepted booking and in all cases prior to check-in. If booking Guest has fewer than two published reviews or a single bad review, Guest will need to pay an additional (but refundable) $500 deposit within 24 hours of accepted booking. We accept pets with prior approval; pets have an additional fee for cleaning and each pet counts as a guest.
